This blog will be used to document building a Chesapeake Light Craft Pocketship sailboat. (PocketShip: 15-foot Fast-Sailing Pocket Cruiser with Sitting Headroom and 8-foot Berths! Pocket Ship Plans (clcboats.com))
The Pocketship is a 15 foot (4.6 meter) long gaff rigged sailboat designed by John C. Harris. The Pocketship is designed to seat four or sleep two in its small cabin.
The Pocketship can be built from either plans or a kit and is fabricated using the “Stich and Glue” method of construction. More on that later. In our case, we have elected to purchase the kit from CLC. The reason is that the CLC provides precut plywood pieces and cost difference between purchasing the uncut plywood vs. precut was minimal. That said, if I lived outside of the USA, I would build from plans using locally sourced materials.
The instruction book and plans appear to be complete and well laid out. It is estimated that the boat will take 30 weekends to complete, so call it two years.
